guest room to nursery

11 Jul

As most everyone knows by now, we are getting closer and closer to bringing a baby into this crazy world! As soon as we moved into our house we knew exactly what room would be our nursery. It had two pink walls which we also always knew, would be changed to mint.

The exciting part was moving everything out of there and finding places for it all throughout our house.  Newer construction homes in Central Florida are extremely tight on storage space so that was quite a challenge.  We got rid of some stuff, sold some stuff and moved some stuff into the various storage spaces we have dedicated throughout the house and the garage.

Our first purchase for the nursery was actually our rocker. We had gotten some cash for Christmas that we wanted to put towards the baby’s room so we headed to Buy  Buy Baby to find the perfect one!  The same weekend we also found an awesome rug from Home Goods.  It was a productive weekend!

Next step in this adventure was to paint.  While Britton was away on business one week I started the process and completed the first coat of paint on all the walls! Once he was home, he helped me finish the walls with a second coat.  It’s much more fun to paint with a partner!

In the midst of painting the space we also found out we were having a baby boy! Which helped us decide what would come next in the space to prepare for a baby boy! No more mint and coral and yellow for this room, it would now be mint, white and navy blue 🙂 Once the walls were painted it was time to figure out a dresser/changing table and get the rest of our furniture ordered.  I had already picked out a crib and had hoped to refinish an old dresser for his room.  The dresser, however, was not as easy to refinish as I had hoped so we scrapped the idea after finding the perfect piece from Adjectives Unhinged. A midcentury disaster was what it was when we found it but after they designer refinished it, it was PERFECT for our baby boy!

My in-laws purchased our crib for us so we put it together and we were well on our way to having everything we needed for baby boy!

I also wanted a bookcase where all of our baby books could face out so I found a great one on the pottery barn kids website! I also needed artwork for our celestial themed nursery so I headed straight to etsy to find some unique pieces. We also got a great mobile from etsy that we couldn’t be happier with.  Britton even found a map of the northern sky on a deal website from Europe! Two weeks ago we put it all together and his room is PERFECT and ready for his arrival (just like I am!)

We had a lot of fun putting together his room and we really can’t wait for him to spend his first years in this room and this house. We hope he loves the space we’ve created for him!

Friday I’m in Love

8 Jul

Friday’s have become super busy for me over the past few weeks and it’s made these posts somewhat impossible to get to.  It doesn’t help that I have become SUPER lazy in the last few weeks of pregnancy so I have a lot less fun stuff to share!

#1

First and foremost, I am so in love with spending time out on the water.  On Monday my dad took us  and a few friends out on the Butler chain of lakes to celebrate Independence Day.  We had so much fun, I didn’t want to leave!  We got to the park early enough on Monday morning that we had no trouble dropping the boat in and getting a parking spot for the trailer.  Getting out was a whole other story.  But everything in between was perfect.  Britton made breakfast burritos for us to eat once we were out on the water.  We brought Publix subs to snack on for lunch, and I way over prepared snacks for the rest of the day.  The water was wonderful and I think I spent over 2 hours just floating.  Perfect day!

Last weekend we finished our nursery which I should do a whole post on that so maybe next week 🙂 I love everything about his space!  Even though he won’t be there for a few months as we will be keeping him in a bassinet for a while, it feels good to have this done! Mint walls, grey and white furniture, navy accents?!  It’s perfect!

Monster Cookies… These are a thing in the Midwest for sure but I made almost 4 dozen over the weekend to bring out on the boat.  We’ve been snacking on them all week.  Have you ever had one?  They are the perfect mix of peanut butter, chocolate, and oatmeal that me and Britton find irresistible.  I used Paula Deen’s recipe and used dark chocolate m&m’s as that is my favorite way to eat chocolate.  Make some.  Don’t wait for something special.

Probably top on my list of loves is feeling our baby move around all day long. I wish I could get a video of it but he gets skittish whenever I pull out my phone to get it!  He’s still super active and it makes me really excited to meet him!  I tell him every day to not get too comfortable because we really can’t wait to see his sweet face!

On top of being 37+ weeks pregnant, we are renovating our master bathroom.  I say we, but we hired a contractor (thank goodness) and its been quite inconvenient. Once we’re all done I’ll be excited to share but right now I feel like we are living in chaos.  Hopefully next week I will be able to add a bathroom reno to my love list instead of my opposite of love list 🙂

Monday, a fresh start

20 Jun

I started to write a Friday I’m in Love post last week and I came up at a loss.  My city, the city beautiful, the city I grew up in, was brutally attacked last Sunday morning. Everyone in the world knows all the news that plastered CNN, Fox News and local stations.  So it was hard for me to come up with my loves.  I spent the week alone while Britton traveled and every day I watched the news and talked with friends about what was happening.  But the person I wanted to talk with most was in Mexico, so far from my reality.

Yesterday at Church we held a special prayer service to pray for our city, for first responders, for the families and friends directly affected.  I found hope on Sunday.  I’m working towards peace.

So today after spending a lot of time grieving, and feeling anger this week I plan to start a new.  Find more things to love and appreciate.  People always say to find the good that comes from the tragedy and all week I think I’ve seen those things.  Over 5300 people were out to give blood THE DAY of the tragedy.  Counter protesters blocked grieving families from the negativity of a hateful group and over 55,000 people showed up at Lake Eola last night for a candlelight vigil.  And all over the world cities are standing beside our city, Orlando, to share their support and love for a community that has faced so much hardship.

These are the things that help me move forward.  To see the world throw their arms around our city to help bring us light in the face of darkness.  Our church put together a great list of ways we can support our community now in our time of need. There’s a lot we can do to continue to show the world that we are united. That love is love is love. That Orlando won’t live in fear.

I will be still. I will not fret. I will hope in the Lord.

Friday night we went to Animal Kingdom to see some of the new night activity happening at the park.  My cousin is a drummer in the new Jungle Book Alive show and it was AWESOME!  He is an amazing performer and I had so much fun watching him on the stage. I’m hoping the show isn’t over when our tickets are active again in August so we can see the show again!

Last Saturday we did a Childbirth 101 class with Florida Hospital.  I was pretty skeptical about taking one of these classes and I’ll be honest, I didn’t learn a whole lot of new information.  But it did help me feel more prepared for what we’ve got coming in a few (or six) weeks.  What I really enjoyed was Britton being there with me. He learned some techniques to help me relax during the process and it helps that he always knows how to make me laugh.  I hope he can keep that up when I’ve been in labor for HOURS!

A Day at Home with a Newborn. Early this week I came across this article.  I shared it with Britton and now I’m sharing it with all of you!  I’m so glad he will be home to see the chaos of caring for a newborn!

This week has been full of crummy weather but I’m hopeful this weekend brings us some sunshine and fun!  Have a good weekend friends!

After this short week I can’t believe its already Friday!

My first love of the week has to be going to friends’ weddings.  It has been so long since I’ve seen and hung out with so many of the friends I made at Rollins as a graduate assistant and this last weekend at Amit and Barbara’s wedding I had too much fun! Huge shout out to my bestie merebear for instigating all the fun!  And thanks to Britton for catching this snipit of me dancing like a fool, 8 months pregnant!

On Monday, due to the over activity of the weekend, I was feeling like crap.  I just can’t dance, stand, walk around, party, enjoy myself like I could when I wasn’t pregnant and I haven’t gotten the hang of it.  I am so thankful for my dad, Britton and Foster (my three favorite guys) for taking such good care of me.  Dad brought Foster home to me even though it was SO out of the way.  Britton helped me relax and get comfortable once we made it home from south Florida.  and lastly, Foster snuggled up next to me to comfort me after Britton left on a work trip.  I love you all and I thank you for taking such good care of me!

Did anyone else read this article on women’s clothing sizes.  I’ve been saying to Britton for years now I wish women’s clothes weren’t tied to a number or a size but rather a symbol or color so we don’t always feel so bad about the size we buy in the store.  It’s not an indicator of our health.  Women’s clothing sizes are so completely arbitrary and they consistently make us feel bad about ourselves.  I really appreciate this guys facebook post and the article that followed. I’m sick of feeling bad about myself for the size I buy to feel comfortable in my clothes.  Who’s with me?

I started watching the HBO show Silicon Valley this week as something to have on the tv. Holy moly its hilarious!  Just watching this trailer again made me crack up!  If you haven’t watched it yet (and clearly I’m behind the game by 3 seasons) you should.  It’s funny.

Tomorrow Britton and I are in the childbirth 101 class at Florida Hospital ALL DAY! I am sure I will learn a lot but I’ll admit, I’m not really looking forward to it and I’m sure he isn’t either!

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

One of my best friends got married on Memorial Day weekend and I was so excited to be able to celebrate with them!  Britton and I went down to Boca Raton for the wedding festivities on Saturday and hoped to be able to spend some time at the beach with the guests and wedding party.  Unfortunately we were running late that day and got there in time to get ready for dinner.

We ate in downtown Delray Beach which was absolutely adorable.  I made reservations at a place called Racks Fish House and Oyster Bar.  The food was great but the atmosphere was even more fun!  There was a loud bar crowd but it didn’t deter from the experience.  After dinner we walked the town and I got a delicious, chocolate covered popsicle 🙂 it was delicious!

After dinner we met up with the wedding crew at their hotel, the Delray Sands.  I had a lot of fun meeting some new people and catching up with old friends.

Sunday we were up early to join my friends Meredith and Candace for breakfast. Afterwards we went back to the wedding party’s hotel to swim in the pool and relax with old friends.  It was very hot outside but I had a lot of fun in the pool with some old friends from Rollins.

Sunday evening was the main event.  We got ready back at our hotel and then headed to the Seagate Country Club for the wedding festivities.  I was feeling quite out of place being 8 months pregnant and the size of a whale but luckily all my friends were extremely nice, telling me I was beautiful in my large state!

The ceremony was beautiful and I danced the night away at the reception.  We had a great time that evening which made for an uncomfortable Monday for this very pregnant woman!

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to celebrate the marriage of Amit and Barbara this weekend.  After being Amit’s friend for almost 10 years, I am so glad he found his other half!

Last Friday I got taped up by my chiropractor and OMG. Thank you KT.  I had mentioned in last week’s post that I had begun to have more intense ligament pain as my belly has grown and the tape thing worked WONDERS!  Britton is learning how to do it for me this afternoon so I won’t have to go back to her every week to be taped.  So glad I found this!

This is hilarious. The mom cut on SNL with Brie Larson.  I was catching up on some old episodes this week and this one cracks me up!  Hoping the mom cut doesn’t choose me!

Old Navy was having a BIG sale this week.  When I went to return some maternity clothes I got online I had to check out what they had in the kids section. OMG. This swim romper was CALLING MY NAME! And our plan this summer is to expose baby boy to the pool and beach as early as we can! So obviously I had to get it for 50% off!

They say you aren’t supposed to eat lunch meats while pregnant.  Well that’s been one of my only cravings (oh and last night I wanted one of those strawberry shortcake ice cream bars). So needless to say I haven’t stuck real true to the no lunch meats deal.  I love sandwiches!  We have a Firehouse Subs right near the house but normally there is no parking anywhere near by to make this location convenient.  Except on Tuesday 🙂 Thank you Firehouse for being so delicious!

This weekend will be a very special weekend for me as I watch one of my best friends get married!  Britton and I will be in South Florida for a weekend long celebration!  In reflection of my friendship of Amit here is a toast to you.  To my Bridesman, and ever best friend!  We can’t wait to celebrate!
